How do I start using my account?

It’s easy to get started. Just complete the registration at your member website, then log in. From there, you can click on the Spending tab and begin managing your account online.

How do I add money to my account?

Contributions are generally made through payroll deductions. At the beginning of the year, you decide what amount you want deducted from each paycheck and deposited into your account. You can only change this amount during the annual enrollment period for your health plan, or if you experience a major life event such as marriage, divorce, birth of a child or change of employment status.  The Internal Revenue Code limits how much money can be put into your FSA each year. Your employer will determine the maximum limits for your company’s plan, which may be less than the government maximums.

When is my money available?

That depends on which type of FSA you have. With a health care FSA, your entire annual amount is available at the beginning of the plan year. For example, if you chose to contribute $1,200 for the year and your plan year begins in January, you can be paid for a $1,200 eligible claim in January, even though you’ve only put the first $100 into the account. You’d continue to pay $100 a month for the rest of the plan year.
Unlike medical FSAs, dependent care FSAs aren’t "pre-funded", so you can’t receive a claim payment for your entire annual contribution amount on day one of the plan year. You can only be reimbursed for your dependent care expenses up to the account balance of the payroll deductions that have already been put into your account.
